Although Health Care Reform has meant a lot of struggle, confusion and rising costs for employers, there are some positive cost implications of Obamacare that may be increasingly realized over time.
For employers who don’t offer health insurance to employees, there is a higher frequency of reporting a work-related medical situation under Workers’ Compensation so they can seek medical care when they would otherwise not have coverage.
Employers are well aware of the cost of Workers’ Compensation and the dramatic premium increases that follow claims and relate to experience mods. Perhaps medical insurance is expensive but it could prove to be less expensive in the long-run if fewer claims are reported through Workers’ Compensation due to employees now having access to healthcare insurance
